Kaiku is positioning itself as a pioneer in the dairy sector by implementing Envirodigital, an innovative tool that measures the environmental impact of its products. Based on the European Union\u2019s Product Environmental Footprint (PEF) methodology, this technology enables progress towards more sustainable and responsible production.<\/strong><\/p>\n

With the support of the AZTI<\/a> technology centre and funding from the Provincial Council of Gipuzkoa through the Etorkizuna Eraikiz Misioak programme, Kaiku has analysed every stage of its production process to identify the main environmental impact hotspots and optimise its operations towards greater sustainability.<\/p>\n

A tool to measure and improve<\/strong><\/h2>\n

Kaiku has implemented Envirodigital, a tool developed by AZTI, which has enabled the company to assess the environmental footprint of its products and measure the impact of the initiatives successfully carried out as part of its sustainability commitment. These actions include the use of 100% renewable energy, reduced water consumption, eco-design of packaging to improve recyclability, and the \u201czero waste\u201d certification awarded by Saica to its yoghurt production plant, which has been renewed for the third consecutive year.<\/p>\n

\u201cThis tool helps us accurately measure the impact of our decisions. It allows us to act more effectively to minimise environmental impact across the entire product life cycle,\u201d explains Erlantz Egidon, Sustainability Manager at Kaiku.<\/p>\n

Collaboration for more sustainable production<\/strong><\/h2>\n

The analysis carried out using Envirodigital follows the PEF methodology, recognised by the European Union, and has enabled Kaiku to identify opportunities for improvement across all stages of its value chain.<\/p>\n

We use milk sourced from local family farms, which not only ensures high-quality raw materials but also generates social and environmental benefits. A pioneering project in the dairy sector<\/strong><\/h2>\n

This work is part of the HASLA project, funded by the Provincial Council of Gipuzkoa, which promotes sustainability in food products.
